Is that because it's bad? Was it just that game that got thrown in with the Motion Plus to get you to spend an extra $10? The answer is no, far from it. But Wii Sports Resort was the 10th-best-selling game ever, and it seems like nobody really talks about it. It's the 4th-best-selling game of all time partly due to the pack-in nature of it. Here's the thing: people talk about Wii Sports, even today. I got my Wii Motion Plus via a Wiimote with it built in, so I never bothered with Resort. But Wii Sports Resort came bundled with the Wii Motion Plus accessory, which helped it sell big. I had my fill of Wii Sports and I didn't figure I'd get much out of a follow-up. Obviously there were a lot of people who loved Wii Sports, and naturally bought the follow-up, Wii Sports Resort. The console was still selling, but many of the big games people were interested in were already out by that point - Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. By 2009, Wii releases were starting to slow down a bit.

But the lack of content was never really considered an issue - it was a free pack-in that came with the Wii, its purpose being more to show off the functionality of the Wiimote than to offer anything of its own.įast-forward three years. You can literally spend an hour flying around slightseeing and never getting tired of it. It’s a neat little way to present the title sequence, and you can replay it by choosing one of three “Air Sports”. Your plane doesn’t land there–you parachute out, forming in-air formations with other parachuters. When you start up Wii Sports Resort for the first time, you see your Mii on a plane heading for Wuhu Island, where the Wii Sports Resort is located. Here’s a breakdown of each sport, along with a video plus my observations on how useful it is for exercise. Like Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort is made up of several sports simulation games, with your Mii as the star of each game.
What makes the MotionPlus special? It gives new life to your old Wii-mote by allowing games that are designed for it to react not just to your arm movements, but to the angle of your wrists and the speed of your motion.Īnd just like Wii Sports was the perfect way to show off the Wii-mote, Wii Sports Resort is the best way to show the capabilities of the MotionPlus. It comes with the MotionPlus controller, a small cube-shaped attachment you snap onto your existing Wii-mote (you can see pictures and a more detailed description in my review of EA Sports Tennis). Wii Sports Resort is the much-anticipated sequel to Wii Sports.
Remember the “this is so cool” moment you had when you first swung a baseball bat in Wii Sports or bowled your first strike? Get ready for the feeling again.
